Today’s film talk is about Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The movie is about Batman who feels Superman causes more trouble than he does good and he goes after him to protect Gotham City. The film is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons and Laurence Fishburne.
I’m a little behind on the new DC Comic Universe and only watched this movie last weekend. A full 15 months after its theatrical release…
There are a few reasons for this. The main reason being I hadn’t watched the new Superman Man of Steel. (I still haven’t). You see I’m not the biggest Superman fan. He’s cool and all but he’s no Batman. Batman is THE MAN!
The other reason is Christian Bale wasn’t Batman! In my opinion he has been the best Batman. Dark, brooding, a bit pretentious and haunted. He fitted perfectly within the dark and mysterious world of DC Comics. Because of this, I really did not know what to expect of Ben Affleck as Batman. I was actually pleasantly surprised. He brought the whole package. Good looks, brooding, haunted and quite a nice muscled body… Yes very nice.
The final reason for me putting off watching Batman vs Superman is I was instantly confused by the title. Batman vs Superman? Aren’t they both good guys? Don’t they both end up in the Justice League?
Now I’m not a comic book fan at all. But I do enjoy the superhero movies. Batman is by far my favourite followed by Spiderman. I used to watch the cartoon version of the Justice League as a child and thought I knew the stories semi well so imagine my surprise when I saw the title Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.
After watching a few minutes you soon realise why the two boys don’t like each other and begin fighting. Now I say boys because honestly that’s what they both act like. The fighting really is a misunderstanding and it feels like two young boys having a playground spat that quickly gets straightened out and they go on playing with their toys. Anyone else get that feeling?
Overall I felt this movie was good. It contained everything you want in a superhero movie. Action, special effects, great actors and of course the evil villain. Jesse Eisenberg did a fantastic job playing a lunatic rich kid and he was both crazy and evil but funny to watch. The movie also introduces Wonder Woman, which then leads into her new movie Wonder Woman. They then introduce members of the Justice League ready for their movie that is due out November 2017.
These are just a few of my thoughts on the movie. What was your overall impression? Did you enjoy it? Did you think it lived up to expectation? Lets start a discussion in the comments below!
