Ingredients
For The Cake;

For The Glaze;

Instructions
Cake;
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease and line a 22cm (or a large) spring form pan.
Place the chopped apples and dates in a bowl with the baking soda and boiling water. Give it a small mix and set aside.
Beat the butter and brown sugar together until creamy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
Stir in the flour and apple mixture until all is combined. The mixture should be runny.
Pour into the prepared tin and cook for 30 minutes.
Glaze;
Combine the glaze ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved.
Spread the glaze over the cake and bake for a further 10 minutes.
Allow to cool and then chop.
Notes
To make this healthier, you can cut down on the sugar a little and also replace half the butter with apple sauce and the cake is still fine.
