Homemade Cookie dough is a SAFE to eat chocolate chip cookie dough, requires only six ingredients and can be whipped up and ready in 10 minutes or less! With cookie dough this simple, there's no excuse not to make it yourself.

I just love these little serving cups. Makes you feel like you're just eating ice cream or bought the cookie dough from a cookie dough shop. (I still can't believe these exist! We don't have them in New Zealand but maybe I should open one.....?).

I used these Lavender Polka Dot Cups which are just too cute but if you want a larger pack, I would go for the 60 piece Rainbow Paper Polka Dot Cups. Perfect for a party whether you're serving cookie dough or ice cream!

Cookie Dough or ice cream? Which is your favourite. For me, ice cream will always be one true love but cookie dough is very close behind. We've been having lovely warm weather lately so I find myself craving a nice, cool ice cream (homemade anyone?) but sometimes you just want the comfort of good ole chocolate chip cookie dough.

To make this cookie dough safe to eat we don't use any eggs. We replace those with a touch of milk. We then have three options for the flour. Use as is, heat treat it or replace it.

Flour is considered 'not safe' by some when eaten raw but then others don't agree. If you have no issue eating raw flour then by all means use raw and skip to the recipe. If you are one who doesn't like the idea of eating raw flour or it irritates your stomach (like me in large quantities) then remain here.

Option one is to making or buying oat flour. To make oat flour just take regualr oats and blitz them into a fine flour in a blender. That's it. Of course the cookie dough will take on a slight defferent flavour as it's not white flour but still delicious in my opinion.

Option two is to either buy heat treated flour or heat treat it yourself. I will confess and say I have never done this myself but according to a few websites it's pretty straight forward.

Method one: Heat the flour in in the microwave until it reaches 71°C or 160°F. This should take around one - two minutes on high depending on your microwave.

Method two: Heat the flour in the oven. Spread the flour in a thin layer on a baking tray and place in the oven at 180°C or 350°F for 10 minutes.

If you have a baking thermometer, use this to check the temperature.

Other than that the method and other ingredients for the cookie dough is just like regular homemade cookie dough. You can of course switch up the adds. dd in M&Ms, turn these chocolate, add walnuts. You name it!
